Hey i am 17 and i have been in gangs since i was 12 and its not a great life once your in your in and the only way out is to get beat out and its not like a high school fight, it will put you either in hospital, paralyzed or even dead.

i have been a sureno 13 from seattle washington for 5 years plus and i dont plan to get out soon, but heres my advice for those who want to join DON’T DO IT!!! and for those who just joined get out quickly i have 3 of those 5 years in jail and half a year in prison its not worth it, it has wrecked not only me but also my family who had no part in any of it…

Gangs and Guns

A project from the UK looking at gangs and guns. It would be interesting and creative to get gang members involved at looking at their community and how it can be improved…

Stained Heart

This from Mo Matik:

A shot to the brain blood splattered on the wall,
A face gone white, a heavy body took a fall.
Pain to the brain, no pain to sustain,
The point of the shot to take away the insane.
Tears dried up left small marks,
Fear was in the hand until the light turned dark.
Sweat on the forehead now smoothered in red,
A life gone in an instance, so quick to b dead.
Shallow heart still shallow as ever,
Thoughts of failure, never thought u could measure.
Measure up to something, something you could stand for
But you took it all away, before you had a chance to do more.
Now the body at my feet, with no heart to hear beat,
Your brain sprayed everywhere, this body is incomplete.
Blood on my face, for 2 hours I haven’t moved,
My state of mind is lost, my physical is there but my mind is removed.
My hands set still, my eyes focus on this reality,
Took your life in your own hands, with your deranged mentality.
I am stuck in the floor, eyes widely viewing,
I wish I could explain but I don’t know what im doing.
Watching it repeat over and over in my head,
Carpet soaked red but yet still tears I haven’t shed.
In shock, staring at hand that held the glock,
That took away your time, completely stopped your clock.
This picture is infecting my brain, makin me feel insane,
Thoughts running through me, I have pain that will stain.
Everytime I look at you, I feel a burn inside,
That day when you took your life a part of me also died.

Without A Dad

A poem from This Sum Real:

Dad, you could never understand,
Because you were never there.
Through every breath I took and,
My fifteen years I wanted to share.

Never knew you as my father,
Only understood everything I was told.
When the man, that never stood by me,
Entered the stages of getting old.

As I barely knew anything different,
Only the ways that I had already found.
Making my own paths since I was born,
As my father was never around.

Whenever you don’t look at me,
I’m always wondering if you know I’m there.
Wish I could get noticed by only you,
But even then I know you never would care.

It’s sad to see those happy daughters with dads,
But it’s those moments, I have come to agree.
Although you wish I wasn’t in your life to this day,
It gets me through each day to think you do love me.
Although I know deep down, that that isn’t true.

hopefully someday you may love me
In the way that I love you.
One day you might care for me
but hopefully it aint 2 late

West 9th Street

West 9th St by Sad Girl

last night rolled up tha block

to a lil spot called west 9th st.

all tha homies were there..

kickin it outside.

music bumps, and cop cars scream

sumwhere off in tha distance….

tare open tha 24 packs…

out comes tha smirnoff vodka

Sour Apple wrapped up in a brown paper bag….

people starten to get loud now..

time to move it inside…

kic back on tha bed…

talk shit to one another…

bring up old times…

when Regi thought he was El Chingon..lil vato cruzzin on his bike..

feelin kinda perked now…

Tykey strolls in with his peach wrapped blunt..tha only black fool thats kicks
it with us….grew up in tha same hood…he might as well be mixican….

we tell him not to forget us when he gets on MTV…..

laughter takes over all our conversations….

tha house smells like booze and vomit..

feelin kinda dizzy now…

yup..these are tha moments that make up our memories…..

in 10 years….these will be tha

“old times” that we talk about…

…as we kick it on west 9th…

Black Scholarships and College Tours Available

Even in tough economic times, there are scholarships available to students who want to go to college.  All it takes is grades and green money!  Scholarships MEAN that you have to have the grades that are required for application…usually a 3.0 GPA (B Average) on a 4.0 GPA scale.  There are ‘some’ scholarships available for students with a C+ (2.5 GPA) but not that many.  Bottom line?  Start searching for scholarship money a few years BEFORE someone graduates.  This is just a short list.  Your local library has more.  Bro Mike

Here are two new gateways from Black Excel: The College Help Network  (www.BlackExcel.org).

Teaching gang prevention

These kids don’t wake up bad’: Project 180 teaches empowerment, gang prevention
Shelby Star

SHELBY — If Project 180 can turn students from failing grades to being at the top of the class, then officials believe they can do the same to prevent kids from gang activity.

For several years, the project has empowered many kids to stay on track academically, emotionally and spiritually. And now, the program has added gang prevention and intervention to its objectives.

Urban Song of Hope

One Day by Matisyahu

Let these lyrics be our banner for 2010

we all lose
when they feed on the souls of the innocent
blood drenched pavement
keep on moving though the waters stay raging
in this maze you can lose your way (your way)
it might drive you crazy but don’t let it faze you no way (no way)
sometimes in my tears I drown
but I never let it get me down
so when negativity surrounds
I know some day it’ll all turn around
because
all my life I’ve been waiting for
I’ve been praying for
for the people to say
that we don’t wanna fight no more
