Programs That Help Former Gang Members Find Work
This from Lil Miss P
We get a lot of questions about how gang members can find work, and particularly what companies may be willing to give those who have gang histories a chance. It’s true that for companies, a lot of them are liable to protect employees and shy away from hiring candidates that may have a criminal record, etc. But, that does not mean that all do, and there are many programs out there that can help former gang members find opportunities, gain training and other support — including tattoo removal, work clothing and more. Many cities have programs that help people get out of gangs and include support in areas of employment and education. These can be a great way to get work because there is a credibility that can come from being aligned with programs like these. If you can get time on the internet, Google search “Programs to help former gang members” and many results will likely come up. You may have to do a little home work but it can be worth it. In addition to city-related and operated programs for former gang members, there are also many organizations that are private that do the same. Again, turn to the internet if you can to gain research, or contact the city you are in to find out information about programs. You would be surprised at the volume of people that are willing to help that are out there. If it takes a little time, don’t be frustrated — the right resources will come your way the more you make an effort towards the right direction in your life.
